A 77-year-old man was killed and three other people were injured Sunday morning when a suspected drunk driver ran a red light at Lincoln Avenue and Euclid Street in Anaheim and crashed into another car, police said.

The alleged drunk driver was among those injured.

The dead man, Dudley Cates of Garden Grove, was one of two passengers in a 1987 Mercury Marquis that was turning left from Euclid onto Lincoln, Lt. Dave Severson of the Anaheim Police Department said.

While turning west, the Mercury was hit by a 1983 Pontiac driven by Amador Oregon, 23, of Tustin, who was traveling east on Lincoln and failed to stop for a red light, Severson said.

Oregon suffered moderate injuries and was flown by helicopter to Western Medical Center-Santa Ana. He was arrested on suspicion of manslaughter and driving under the influence of alcohol and booked into the jail ward of the hospital, Severson said.

Cates and the 70-year-old unidentified male driver of the Mercury were taken to UCI Medical Center in Orange, where Cates was later pronounced dead. The driver suffered major injuries and was listed in extremely critical condition, Severson said.

The other passenger in the Mercury, an unidentified female, suffered minor injuries and was taken to Martin Luther Hospital in Anaheim.
