LA PALMA : City Joining in Pact on Police-Fire Radio

Share

The city will join a countywide joint powers agreement to provide better radio communication between police and fire departments.

The City Council approved spending $520,000 as the city’s share of the project.

As Police Chief David Barr noted to the council at its meeting last week, the radio system is a $70-million, countywide project. “Cities throughout Orange County have been involved in this effort from the beginning in what arguably is the largest cooperative procurement by local government in the county’s history,” Barr said.

Barr said the cost of the project is based on a formula that takes into consideration a city’s size and use of radio communication.

La Palma has been saving money for the project for several years and will have a total of $450,000 accumulated by the end of the next fiscal year, Barr said.

Interim City Manager Len Wood said the city showed wisdom and foresight in setting aside money for the radio project years before payment was due.
