SAN FERNANDO : Meeting Will Focus on Honoring Chavez
The last of three public meetings to discuss a proposal to name a small plot near the intersection of Wolfskill and Truman streets in honor of the late farm labor hero Cesar Chavez will be held tonight.
The suggestion to dedicate the area in memory of Chavez was made by a five-member committee appointed by the San Fernando City Council in March.
The council created the committee after a previous proposal to rename Kalisher Street after Chavez divided the community.
Since March, committee members have conducted two meetings to collect public input on how best to honor Chavez. One meeting was held at Recreation Park and the other at Las Palmas Park.
The committee came up with creating a memorial near the Wolfskill-Truman intersection after considering several other proposals, including naming a planned bike path that will parallel the Metrolink route or renaming a city park after Chavez, officials said.
Tonight’s meeting will begin at 7 p.m. at San Fernando City Hall.
