LONG BEACH : Marina Pacifica Mall to Undergo Renovation

Share

Marina Pacifica Mall, the sparsely occupied shopping center on Pacific Coast Highway near 2nd Street, is about to undergo a major reconstruction.

Much of the mall, built in 1976 to accommodate about 100 small stores, will be torn down and rebuilt to house fewer but larger retailers.

The project was approved last week by the Planning Commission. Stores are expected to open in the renovated mall next spring.

Prospective tenants include a Ralphs supermarket, The Good Guys electronics store, Tower Records, Strouds linen store, a Barnes & Noble bookstore and a Starbucks Coffee shop. The plan also calls for expansions of the AMC movie theater complex and Trader Joe’s market.

Ralphs, Barnes & Noble and Tower Records are to be built above a garage that is being added to increase the mall’s parking capacity from 1,188 spaces to 1,400.

The redesigned mall will remain about the same size. It will contain less space for restaurants and bars, but more space for offices.
