OAK PARK : Panel Considers Patrol Car Contract

Share

The Oak Park Municipal Advisory Council is studying whether to contract for its own patrol car from the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department, a move that could cost households $20 to $100 per year.

Oak Park now shares a car with nearby unincorporated areas and uses it about 60% of the time.

Sheriff’s officials said the cost of a car used solely in Oak Park would depend upon the level of use requested by the council.

Council administrator Ron Stark said the money probably would come from an increase in special service district fees, which already pay for Oak Park’s lighting, street sweeping, landscaping, crossing guards and other services.

An increase in the fees must go before voters before it is implemented.

“Oak Park has the lowest crime rate in this end of the county, and we know you want to keep it that way,” Sheriff’s Deputy Bruce McDowell told the council Tuesday night.

McDowell said Oak Park also would keep the use of the car it shares with other areas, even if it contracts for its own car.
