Pacific Bell to Consolidate Field Offices: The telephone company said it plans to further centralize the operations centers where employees oversee its statewide network. Previously announced plans had called for the consolidation of about 25 centers into four--in Los Angeles, San Diego, Sacramento and San Francisco. That number will be halved, with centers in Sacramento and San Diego to open in November, potentially saving $20 million in 1995 and several million dollars annually after that. The 270 workers in Los Angeles and the 220 in San Francisco will be offered jobs at the other locations, the company said. San Francisco-based Pacific Bell blamed the move on a recent revenue decline brought on by the advent of competition.
