Tractor Operator Dies in Accident

Share

A 59-year-old man died Friday after the four-wheel tractor he had been operating went over the edge of a 300-foot embankment, authorities said.

Max Cavanas of Hacienda Heights was working on a housing construction project at the top of a hill in the 300 block of North Crawford Canyon Road about noon when the tractor overturned, Police Sgt. Mike Pollock said.

“We think he had been trying to pack down the earth and somehow lost control,” Pollock said. “At this point, we don’t know what caused the injuries or the vehicle to go over the edge.”

Cavanas was airlifted to Western Medical Center-Santa Ana, where he died. Police and Cal-OSHA are investigating the incident, Pollock said.
