The federal government plans to clean house at the Chicago Housing Authority amid scandals over financial mismanagement and fraud at the 86,000-tenant agency. Officials confirmed Friday that the Department of Housing and Urban Development was expected to announce action next week to overhaul and perhaps take over the agency, among the nation’s three largest. The move would include the departure of Chairman Vince Lane,, who advocated privatizing the public housing agency and generated criticism with his crime-fighting techniques.
