Son Succeeds Father as CEO of Safeguard Health

* Steven J. Baileys, vice chairman and president of Safeguard Health Enterprises Inc., has been appointed chief executive. He succeeds his father, Alvin M. Baileys, who will remain as chairman of the board of the Anaheim provider of managed care dental programs. In addition, Bradford M. Boyd has been elected to the board, increasing the number of directors to seven. Boyd is a dentist in Los Angeles County.

* J. Fernando Niebla has been elected to the board of Pacific Mutual Life Insurance Co. in Newport Beach. Niebla is chairman and chief executive of Infotec Development Inc. in Santa Ana.

* James Knoop has been named vice president and casualty unit manager for the Costa Mesa branch of Johnson & Higgins of California. He has been with the insurance broker for more than seven years, serving as a casualty broker in the Los Angeles and Costa Mesa offices.

* Tom Haapala has been appointed vice president of marketing for Kwikset, a Black and Decker company and producer of lock sets. He succeeds Robert Shortt, who was named vice president of marketing for Price Pfister, Black and Decker’s plumbing products division in Pacoima. Haapala will also continue as group vice president, marketing and business development for the Black and Decker Security Hardware Group, of which Kwikset is a part.

* Christobel E. Selecky has been named to the board of director of the Medical Quality Commission, a nonprofit organization in Seal Beach. She is president and chief operating officer of California Health Plan and senior vice president, Western division of FHP International Corp.

* George C. Doomany Jr. and Thomas J. Fogarty have been elected to the board of directors of CareLine Inc., a Santa Ana provider of ambulance services. Doomany is a managing director of BT Capital Partners Inc., one of CareLine’s largest shareholders. He succeeds Michael H. Khougaz, who has left to pursue outside interests. Fogarty is a surgeon and professor of surgery at Stanford University. He succeeds John N. Morris, who has left to pursue outside interests.

* Stan Conner has joined Irvine-based Aurora Electronics Inc. in the newly created position of vice president, product marketing for the Century Computer Marketing division. He will be located in the division’s Marina del Rey headquarters. Before joining the company, Conner was general manager for Arrow/Schweber in Los Angeles. He has held similar positions at Western Microtechnology and Insight Electronics.

* Louis Drapac has been named construction manager for Snyder Langston, an Irvine real estate and construction services company. Drapac was formerly a construction and development manager for Hutton Development in Costa Mesa and a senior project manager for Koll Construction Co. in Newport Beach.

* Tom Vogt has been appointed president and chief operating officer of Taormina Industries, an Anaheim solid waste management and recycling company. He succeeds Dave Ault, who becomes chairman of the board. Vogt had been vice president of facilities and maintenance for 10 years.

* Cliff Slobod has joined the World POG Federation in Costa Mesa as vice president, retail division. He was formerly director of national account sales during his 13 years with Mattel Inc.
