A teen-ager was stabbed to death Tuesday night in a brawl involving about a dozen people at Brand Park, authorities said.

The Herbert Hoover High School student, believed to be 18, was stabbed in the chest when a fight erupted between a dozen youths over a stereo about 4:30 p.m., said Lt. Stephen Campbell of the Glendale Police Department.

The Glendale teen-ager died of his wounds a short time later at Thompson Memorial Hospital, Campbell said.

“A large group of 18-year-old males started arguing, which turned into a fistfight, then to baseball bats and finally to a knifing,” Campbell said.

Park-goers, including a baseball team of girls about 10 to 12 years old, saw the fight and called police, he added.

The others involved in the fight were also students at Hoover High School, located about three miles from the park, Campbell said.

Four arrests were made in connection with the fatal stabbing, Campbell said, and an investigation was continuing.

The dead teen-ager was not identified, pending notification of his family, he said.
