Barry Bonds didn’t think much of his late-inning heroics.

Bonds and Matt Williams hit back-to-back homers in the ninth inning to tie it and Bonds doubled home the winning run in the 11th to lead the San Francisco Giants to a 4-3 victory over the Montreal Expos on Tuesday night at Montreal.

“My homer didn’t do anything,” said Bonds, who has homered in three games in a row. “Matt’s homer is the one that counted. He had to tie the game and he did it.”

Bonds’ eighth homer of the season, his 23rd at Olympic Stadium, came with one out and chased Montreal starter Butch Henry. Tim Scott relieved and Williams hit his league-leading 13th homer on a full-count pitch to tie the game 3-3.

“I was just trying to get a base hit,” said Williams, who had gone 0 for 8 in the series. “Every time is a good time to get your first hit.”

It was the second consecutive comeback victory for the Giants, who blew a 5-0 lead Monday before scoring six in the ninth to win.

Giant Manager Dusty Baker seemed exhausted after his club’s third consecutive victory and fifth in six outings.

“Boy, this is going to make me old and gray very quickly,” Baker said. “But these are the kind of games we’ve got to win if you’re going to be champions.”

Jose Bautista (1-2) pitched 1 2/3 innings for the win and Rod Beck got the final three outs for his seventh save.

Cincinnati 4, Pittsburgh 2--The Reds extended the longest winning streak in the majors to eight games as Pete Schourek gave up four hits over 8 1/3 innings at Pittsburgh.

Cincinnati has won 18 of 21 and is 5-0 on its current trip.

Schourek (3-2) struck out five and walked one to win his third consecutive decision.

St. Louis 8, Colorado 5--Errors on consecutive bunts helped the Cardinals score three runs on one hit in the seventh, and Tom Pagnozzi, Ray Lankford and Todd Zeile drove in two runs each at St. Louis.

Reliever Joe Grahe (0-1) walked Ken Hill (4-0) to start the seventh, then first baseman Andres Galarraga lost the handle on Geronimo Pena’s sacrifice attempt and both runners were safe. Grahe then tried to catch the lead runner on Bernard Gilkey’s bunt, but his underhand attempt sailed over the head of third baseman Vinny Castilla as Hill scored to snap a 5-5 tie.

Zeile added a sacrifice fly before Brian Jordan got the only hit of the inning, an infield hit off the glove of shortstop Walt Weiss, to drive in the third run.

New York 8, San Diego 0--Pete Harnisch (1-2) gave up four hits over eight innings and Brett Butler had three runs batted in at New York as the Mets won for only the second time in their last 10 games.
