Within walking distance of trendy Old Pasadena, Summer Fest ’95 will kick off the season with a little help from the Playboy Jazz Festival.
Each summer Playboy puts on free community concerts in the weeks leading up to the annual jazz bash at the Hollywood Bowl. Summer Fest ’95 will include its largest preview yet, with 12 hours of jazz, blues, Latin, salsa and R&B; music during two days of activities at Central Park, at Fair Oaks Avenue and Del Mar Boulevard.
For the kids, the Esuah Cameroonian Dancers, Zoot the Mime, Los Floras Dancers and a puppeteer-storyteller will entertain. A petting zoo with not-so-typical pets--baby llamas and baby kangaroos and a giant anteater--will be on site.
Food from the town’s trendy eateries, from Mi Piace to Pie ‘n Burger, will come under the Taste of Pasadena heading (tastes are from $1-$5).
Also: about 100 fine arts and crafts exhibitors, train rides, castle bounce. Hours are 10 a.m.-8 p.m. each day; music begins at 1 p.m.
Rides and food, $1-$2. (818) 797-6803.
