315 Students of Education Earn CSUN Degrees

More than 300 diplomas were handed out to graduating School of Education students in a ceremony Wednesday at Cal State Northridge.

Rie Mitchell, a professor in the CSUN Department of Educational Psychology and Counseling for 25 years, was keynote speaker.

Mitchell is the author of “Sandplay: Past, Present and Future,” which has been critically acclaim for defining sandplay therapy as a therapeutic technique.

Of the 315 diplomas handed out, 76 were for bachelor’s degrees and 239 were for master’s degrees.

Cal State Northridge is holding commencement ceremonies all week.

Earlier Wednesday, Academy Award-winning actress Marlee Matlin had spoken at the graduation for the School of Communication, Health and Human Services students.

Entertainer Steve Allen is scheduled to be the keynote speaker for the School of Arts graduation today. Also, Stephen Bollenback, chief financial officer for the Walt Disney Co., will speak to School of Business Administration and Economics students today.

Los Angeles City Councilwoman Jackie Goldberg will address the graduates in the School of Humanities on Friday.

In all, the university will confer 5,504 bachelor’s degrees and 1,033 master’s degrees this week.
