JAZZ : It’ll Be a Weekend of Intimate Exchanges
Renaissance at the Dana Point Cafe’s sixth annual jazz festival this weekend promises a more intimate experience than is usually associated with jazz festivals.
Held on the cafe’s ocean-view patio during the day and moving inside at night, the three-day event allows fans to get close to the music in a club-like atmosphere. Barbecue items will be sold during the afternoon sessions; the cafe’s regular menu will be available during the evening.
Here’s the schedule:
* Friday: Jazz Festival Kickoff featuring guitarist Bobby Redfield’s Latin jazz band with guest vocalist Stephanie Haynes, 8:30 p.m.
* Saturday: saxophonist Jeff Gonzales’ trio, 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.; T.B.A. featuring saxophonist Greg Vail, 3:30 to 7 p.m, bassist Max Bennett and the Maxx Band, 8:30 p.m. to midnight.
* Sunday: Violinist Jamii Szmadzinski of Shadowfax leads his trio Jamii, 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.; Native Vibe with guitarist Bill MacPherson and Nee Sackey, 3:30 to 6:30 p.m., vocalist Dee Dee McNeil, 7 to 10:30 p.m.
