FOUNTAIN VALLEY : School Trustees to Decide Policy on Gifts From Businesses

Share

A new policy for donations to schools from businesses is on the agenda for Fountain Valley School District trustees next Thursday.

The business partnership policy has already won tentative approval from the board. District officials said the new rule, under which trustees would approve all gifts and donations, would help to develop and maintain alternative sources of revenue as well as goods and services.

“For quite some time now we have felt a need to have policies and procedures in place as we continue our quest for business partnerships in the community,” said Marc Ecker, an assistant school superintendent.

Ecker said that, in lean financial times, the district must “look beyond the state for revenues” to offer the services the public demands.

The Fountain Valley Educational Foundation, a nonprofit group, has raised more than $200,000 for the district in the past 12 years by sponsoring bingo games. Under the new policy, Ecker said, the district would be more active in soliciting donations.

“We would like to open the door,” he said, “and encourage business in the community to adopt the Fountain Valley School District.”
