OXNARD : Bomb Simulators Found in Garage

Share

A man who had recently moved into an Oxnard home came across a box of menacing looking but mostly harmless bomb simulators in his garage, prompting a call to the Ventura County sheriff’s bomb squad, authorities said.

The man found a small military ammunition box containing what appeared to be several hand grenades and other small devices, spurring Oxnard police to send the bomb squad to the home in the 2600 block of Lassen Drive about 10 p.m. Tuesday.

Sheriff’s deputies placed the box in the department’s bomb van, where it was determined that the devices were simply simulators.

“If they went off, they’d sound just like a big firecracker,” Senior Deputy Joe Braga said. The devices are used for training, Braga said.

Police did not release the man’s name and did not know how the simulators ended up in his garage.
