A Bit of Chasen’s Lives On

The restaurant is history, but Chasen’s chili lives on. By popular demand, the Chasen’s company began selling its most famous dish shortly after the restaurant closed in April. “People called and asked for it,” says Ralph Woodworth, chief operating officer. “People who were disappointed we closed have some satisfaction in knowing they can purchase the chili. At $18 per quart (plus tax), the chili can be ordered by calling (310) 271-2168 Monday through Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. There’s no delivery service, so you have to pick it up yourself.

Equine Chic: You have to be really chic, or maybe really horsy, to be included in this event. Today, Hermes--famous for its fabulous saddles--is taking 40 people by double-decker bus from its Rodeo Drive outpost to Union Station, where a private train car will whisk the group to San Juan Capistrano. There, they board deluxe coaches to the Oaks, Joan Irvine Smith’s horse farm, where they will watch the Oaks Classics--one of the country’s premiere equestrian events--and lunch ringside. Among the select invitees are lovebirds Tawny Little and Ron Silver, and Chris and Bruce Jenner.

Late Waiter: Out of respect to the late Ron Goldman, his former employer, Mezzaluna restaurant in Brentwood, will be closed on June 12, the one-year anniversary of his murder. Owner Karim Souki says he wanted to close for many reasons, one being that he didn’t want to take any chances that there would be any kind of frenzy with curious patrons and media. More importantly, he said, he wanted his employees and Goldman’s friends to be able to visit his grave that day if they wanted to.
