VENTURA : Redevelopment May Help School District

Share

Ventura school officials may be able to convert their aging district headquarters into a profitable housing investment under an expanded redevelopment plan that will go before the Ventura City Council later this month, officials said Monday.

The district’s main headquarters at 120 E. Santa Clara Street in downtown Ventura will be included in the expanded redevelopment zone, said Joseph Richards, the Ventura Unified School District’s assistant superintendent for business.

That may present the school district with opportunities for selling or leasing that property because the land is zoned for residential use, Richards said.

The district has other administrative offices on Arcade Drive and has set a goal of consolidating its administrative functions under one roof, Richards said.

Richards will present the Board of Education with options at its regular meeting tonight. It begins at 7:30 p.m. in the community room at Ventura City Hall.

Richards said any move to consolidate administrative offices is at least a decade away.

“We are just looking at our options for the long, long term,” he said.
