Countywide : Homeless Agencies to Get Grant Help

A bidders conference this morning will give representatives of social services agencies information about applying for a portion of $224,700 in funds available through the State Emergency Housing and Assistance Program.

The money will be shared this summer by agencies that provide emergency shelter for the homeless in Orange County, said Judy Iannaccone, a spokeswoman for the local American Red Cross chapter.

About $77,900 will be available for capital improvements or equipment purchases, and an additional $146,800 will be distributed for facility operations such as hiring new staff.

The conference will be from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Emergency Operations Center of the Red Cross chapter, 601 N. Golden Circle, Santa Ana.

Applications for funding are available from the Red Cross and must be returned by 5 p.m. June 19.
