LAKE FOREST : City to Vote on New Housing Complex

Share

The City Council is to vote tonight on whether issues raised by a local homeowners association are serious enough to halt plans for a new 42-unit housing complex.

The Planning Commission’s approval last month of the William Lyon Co. project at Regency Lane and Osterman Road has been appealed by the Normandale Heights Homeowners Assn., which cited potential traffic congestion and school overcrowding.

The group stated that a housing tract alongside curvy Regency Road would create a traffic hazard. The association also argued that children living in the proposed complex would overburden nearby Lake Forest Elementary School.

City planners backed the project, agreeing with a traffic study commissioned by William Lyon Co. showing that sight lines along the side street meet city standards.

Saddleback Valley Unified School District officials have told the city that the 24 additional students they estimate would live in the tract would not be a burden on the district.
