Ventura police and community leaders are hosting a job and health fair Saturday that organizers hope will provide Ventura Avenue-area residents with opportunities to find work.
The Westside Festival will be held between noon and 3 p.m. along West Ramona Street, just off Ventura Avenue.
Representatives from area employers will be on hand to offer employment counseling and job leads.
The event will also offer medical checkups, including tests for high blood pressure, diabetes and spinal exams.
Organizers also are planning music, food, dancing and games and prizes for children.
Free drawings for gifts from local businesses will be held every hour, and the Ventura Police Department's Drug Abuse Resistance Education van will be on display, along with a collection of race cars.
The job fair will be held at the Ventura Fire Station on Ventura Avenue and West Ramona Street.
Other events will be staged along West Ramona Street between Riverside Drive and Sheridan Way.
Everything will be free except for food and drinks.
