CONEJO VALLEY : Schools Budget Calls for More State Funds
More money expected from the state, no pay raise for teachers, and $2.4 million left over at the end of the year.
That’s the picture Conejo Valley school board members got Thursday night in a first look at the district’s 1995-1996 budget.
Most of the school’s $77 million in revenue comes from the state, including $28 million in property tax money. The budget includes $1.3 million more in state funding than there was last year because of a 2.73% cost-of-living adjustment included in the governor’s proposed state budget.
The contract with the Thousand Oaks teachers union expires June 30, and teachers have asked for a raise and the return of a 3% pay cut they accepted last year. But the budget does not include funding for either.
The board of the Conejo Valley Unified School District is scheduled to vote on the budget at a meeting June 20. State law requires that the board adopt a budget by June 30.
