A baccalaureate Mass and commencement will take place today at Thomas Aquinas College in Santa Paula, one of two graduation celebrations scheduled this weekend.

The 9 a.m. Mass will be said in the chapel at Thomas Aquinas College by the Rev. Renato R. Martino, permanent observor of the Holy See to the United Nations, school officials said.

The Mass will be followed by an 11 a.m. commencement exercise at the campus, also celebrated by Martino, officials said.

Sunday, graduating seniors from Camarillo and Rio Mesa high schools will participate in a special baccalaureate service in the chapel at St. Columba’s Episcopal Church in Camarillo.

The students will give speeches, sing hymns and offer prayers during the service. About 100 seniors participated last year, the first year the spiritual service was offered, organizer Ray Linford said.

“We created this because we felt the students needed a spiritual send-off in addition to what they do in the public schools.”

The service will begin at 7 p.m.
