John Adam Belgin; Mathematician at Navy Base

John Adam Belgin, a longtime Oxnard resident and civil servant, has died after a short illness. He was 55.

Belgin, who died Thursday in Lancaster, was a civilian mathematician for the Point Mugu Naval Air Weapons Station and was active in community youth baseball and basketball programs, family members said.

A native of Pennsylvania, Belgin is survived by his wife, Joyce, and two sons, David Belgin of Reston, Va., and Samuel Belgin of De Witt, Iowa.

He is also survived by his mother, Carmaline Belgin of Barnesboro, Pa.; two brothers, Anthony Belgin of Ebensburg, Pa., and Michael; and two sisters, Karen Sterrett of Sterling, Va., and Corrine Basile of Spangler, Pa.

Visitation will be today at James A. Reardon Mortuary in Oxnard from 1 to 6 p.m. A memorial service will be held at Mary Star of the Sea church in Oxnard at 9 a.m. Monday. Burial will take place at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Cemetery in Barnesboro, Pa.
