Pension Funds for Biotech: When about 200 biotechnology executives and investors meet in San Diego on Tuesday, they’ll be hoping to hear encouraging words from Kathleen Connell. Since her election as state controller last year, Connell has been advocating more investment in California by the state’s two big pension funds, the California Public Employees Retirement System and the California State Teachers Retirement System. Connell, who sits on the boards of both retirement funds, wants them to invest more in biotechnology and other emerging industries in the state.
