SIMI VALLEY : Transit Supervisors to Get Pay Raises

Share

As a way to keep valuable employees and attract new workers, the Simi Valley City Council on Monday voted to give transit supervisors a raise.

After years of struggling with a high turnover of staff, Simi Valley transportation officials learned that they were paying employees about 12% less than similar agencies throughout the state.

Not only was turnover a problem, they said, but every time they tried to fill vacant positions, many qualified workers declined to come to the city at such low pay.

Under the plan, salaries would rise so that the four transit supervisors will be paid between about $34,000 and $45,000 a year.

To keep the agency’s budget from ballooning, a vacant position for a bus driver will not be filled, which is expected to save about $37,000 per year. In addition, the transit department will postpone filling two new positions: a bus driver and a dispatcher. That is expected to save an added $65,000.
