Are those enough reasons to travel to the Santa Ynez Mountains for the Live Oak Music Festival on Friday through Sunday? If not, maybe the Hillbillies From Mars will grab your attention.

These acts and more, representing a wide range of musical genres, will perform at the woodsy Live Oak Campground off California 154, just north of Santa Barbara. In addition to music, there will be dancing by Ballet Folclorico Do Brasil, arts and crafts, food, music workshops, children’s programs and a barn dance.

Beginning Friday, the Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History will feature sharks, sharks and more sharks. Exhibits, films, lectures and other shark-related events will continue through Sept. 4.

The museum’s Fleischmann Auditorium will take on a deep-sea appearance, with images of sea life projected onto the ceiling, pulsating underwater sounds echoing through the hall and photographs of shark habitats covering the walls. Guests will be greeted by 17 life-size shark models and a re-creation of the fossilized jaws of a 45-foot prehistoric shark.

Museum hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays to Saturdays and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sundays. Admission is $5 (general), $4 (teen-agers and senior citizens), $3 (children). Call 682-4711 for information. The museum is at 2559 Puesta del Sol Road.

Historical guns, knives and other military items will be on display this weekend at Santa Barbara’s Earl Warren Showgrounds. The Historical Arms & Blades Show will run from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $5 (general), $3 (senior citizens) and $1 (children). ONGOING: The Santa Barbara Museum of Art has on display three exhibits that focus on India, its people and culture.

“Victorian Visions / Visions of India” is a collection of 40 photographs depicting life in India from 1855 to 1911.

“From the Ocean of Painting: India’s Popular Painting Traditions 1589 AD to the Present” presents 100 folk, tribal and popular paintings culled from collections in the United States and England.

“Painted Prayers: the Ritual Art of Indian Women,” photographs by Stephen Huyler, looks at the centuries-old tradition of Indian women who paint their homes with religious art for good luck and protection.

The museum is open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays; 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursdays, and noon to 5 p.m. Sundays. Admission is $4 (general), $3 (senior citizens), $1.50 (students and children 6 to 17), and free (children under 6). It is at 1130 State St. Call 963-4364.
