Moorpark : Newspaper Chain Replaces Weekly

The weekly Moorpark News Mirror will cease publication later this month to be replaced by a zoned edition of the Ventura County Star.

The Ventura County Newspapers group announced Thursday that starting June 29, the company will change Moorpark’s weekly afternoon paper to a morning daily edition called the Moorpark Star.

The new newspaper will focus on daily coverage of Moorpark, said Tim Gallagher, editor for the newspaper chain.

“We’ll try to do a much more thorough job of covering the city,” Gallagher said.

The paper currently has a staff reporter, two interns, a photographer and an editor, said News Mirror editor Debra Ryono.

Ryono also will edit the Moorpark Star, which will join similar editions in Simi Valley, Thousand Oaks, Oxnard, Camarillo and Ventura that are run by the Ventura County Newspaper group.

All those papers are part of the Ohio-based Scripps-Howard chain.
