Coughlin Commendation
Why am I not surprised by all the indifference and callousness that Lt. Paula Coughlin experienced in the Navy when she said she had been sexually harassed?
In her article titled “In the Eye of ‘Tailhook’ ” (May 21), Times Staff Writer Susan King noted that both male and female officers labeled Coughlin as “not popular” and a “whistle-blower.” What scurrilous charges!
Unlike her fellow officers, perhaps the so-called popular ones, Paula Coughlin said no. To her credit, Lt. Coughlin followed proper procedure and brought her complaints to her immediate supervisor. When he failed to act, she had no other choice. Consequently, the Navy has never been the same.
