State Sen. Jack O’Connell (D-Santa Barbara) has been appointed to the Senate Committee on Insurance by Senate President Pro Tem Bill Lockyer (D-Hayward).
O’Connell, who served on the Assembly Insurance Committee, was elected to the Senate last year.
“As a member of the Insurance Committee, I want to protect consumers’ rights while understanding the needs of business,” O’Connell said.
The committee--which oversees the state’s insurance industry--currently is dealing with the issues of homeowners’ and earthquake insurance, auto insurance and disaster protection.
Lockyer appointed O’Connell to take the position vacated by Sen. Tom Hayden (D-Santa Monica).
