BASEBALL / DAILY REPORT : ANGELS : Fabregas Does Best to Make Impression

Share

Catcher Jorge Fabregas isn’t particularly keen on the idea of returning to triple-A Vancouver when Greg Myers returns from the disabled list, so he’s determined to make the Angels keep him around.

Sunday, he went three for four, hitting his first major league home run and extending his hitting streak to seven consecutive games.

“I want to stay here,” Fabregas said. “I don’t want to go down.”

If Manager Marcel Lachemann knows what the club will do, he isn’t saying. He did say Fabregas will start behind the plate again tonight, however.

“It’s not an issue right now,” Lachemann said. “He’s doing a good job catching and he’s getting some big hits.”

Conventional wisdom says the Angels won’t carry both Fabregas and Myers, two left-handed hitters.

Chicago catcher Ron Karkovice was charged with an error on the Angels’ winning play at the plate in the 11th inning Saturday, but official scorer Ed Munson removed the error after watching video of the play. The tape showed Karkovice never had control of the throw as Jim Edmonds slid home with the winning run.

Credit Gary DiSarcina with an RBI and charge losing pitcher Tim Fortugno with an earned run.
