WESTMINSTER : City Is a Finalist for All America Award
The city has been selected as one of 30 finalist communities in the annual All America City competition.
City officials will travel to Cleveland, Ohio, this week to deliver a presentation at the All America City award hearings, which will be held Thursday through Sunday. After the hearings, 10 cities will receive the award.
Westminster was the only city in Orange County--and one of two in the state--to be named a finalist this year, officials said. The other California city is Lindsay. The awards, which have been presented by the National Civic League since 1949, recognize efforts by local government to solve community problems and strengthen city programs.
Westminster was recognized for its anti-gang efforts, a children’s tutoring program staffed with senior citizen volunteers, a volunteer program to help beautify neighborhoods and other projects.
