LA HABRA : Band Hosts Carnival to Pay for Uniforms
La Habra High School’s Highlander Band will hold a carnival this weekend to raise money for new uniforms.
SummerFest ’95 opens free to the public Friday on the La Habra High School campus and will run from noon to 10 p.m. through Sunday. It will feature a sky-diving show, vocal performances, karate demonstrations, rides, food, games and Mexican folkloric dancing.
The school’s 72-member band, which includes musicians and flag and drill team members, will staff game booths and rides and serve hamburgers and cotton candy, director Chris M. Harris said. The goal is to raise $40,000, he said.
The current uniforms are at least 10 years old and are worn out and out of style, he said.
The band, which this year won numerous performance awards, will consist of about 144 members in the fall, so new uniforms will be needed badly, Harris said.
Harris said the band is hoping to draw 10,000 during the three-day carnival.
