VENTURA : High Court Affirms Death Sentence
The California Supreme Court has unanimously affirmed the death sentence of Larry David Davis, who was convicted of murdering and raping a Ventura County beauty queen nearly seven years ago.
The partially clad body of Dawn Michelle Holman, who was also a waitress in Oxnard, was found at the Buenaventura Golf Course at 5 a.m. on Aug. 28, 1988.
Holman, 20, had placed third in a Miss Ventura County pageant prior to her death. Davis, then 32, kidnaped her from outside a grocery store on Channel Islands Boulevard at Victoria Avenue at 3 a.m.
A jury convicted him in 1990. Prosecutors said it is impossible to determine when the death penalty will be carried out because Davis still has federal habeas corpus appeals.
