South Bay : ELECTION MYSTERY
Call it the case of the missing absentee ballots. Or were they really missing?
Lois Hill Hale, who lost her seat on the Inglewood School board to Gloria Gray earlier this month by 446 votes, believes 886 absentee ballots are missing from the City Clerk’s office. Hale, who expresses great confidence that the vast majority of them were from her own supporters, has asked the secretary of state to investigate whether the ballots were fraudulently thrown out.
“The election was a total sham--it was stolen from me,” she said Thursday.
But City Clerk Hermanita Harris has a different explanation for the so-called missing ballots. She says a large number of voters who requested absentee ballots never sent them in.
“There’s nothing, in my opinion, that would turn the election around,” Harris said. “And that’s what she was looking for.”
