CUTS HURT: The governor has proposed reducing money for alcohol and drug treatment programs, threatening 850 participants in Ventura County (B1). . . . Foster care, residential detoxification, outpatient counseling, and a residential program for women and children all would dry up. . . . Oxnard resident Evelyn Foster, 37, credits such counseling with keeping her off drugs. “It’s scary that the people who helped me get my life together [wouldn’t] be there anymore.”

SENIOR PROM: If nervous sets of grandparents in rented tuxes and gowns descend on the local steakhouse tonight, be warned: It’s senior prom time at the Simi Valley Senior Center. . . . Senior Services Coordinator Kathy Oliver expects up to 100 people at the 7:30 p.m. dance, with swing, cha-cha and maybe even polka music from the Johnny Olins Band. . . . Couples and singles age 50 and up are welcome, but there will be no smoking or alcohol. Asked about chaperons, Oliver just snickered. . . . Call 526-9237 for information.

DOLLAR DAD: James Hurt, owner of an Ojai body shop, is hard to please on Father’s Day. “I build cars and stuff, and they never know what kind of parts to buy me,” he said. . . . So this year, eldest daughter Randi bought him 10 Lucky Stars lottery tickets. She joked that he had to split his winnings . . . which, amazingly, turned out to be $10,000. “They’ll never top this one,” Hurt said. “I’ll just pay a few bills and put the rest away. And split a little with my daughter.”

STARS SHINE: Now that the high school baseball and softball seasons are over, the awards keep coming, with The Times doing its part today (C15, C16). . . . Three juniors--Westlake High outfielder Matt Riordan, Thousand Oaks pitcher Santos Mummey and Westlake pitcher Kelly DeArman--and La Reina senior shortstop Shane Anderson take the major awards. . . . Royal baseball Coach Dan Maye and La Reina softball Coach Don Hyatt are also honored.
