Senate OKs Repeal of National Speed Limit

WASHINGTON —
The Senate on Thursday approved a federal highway bill that would repeal the national speed limit for cars so states could set their own limits.
The bill, passed on a voice vote, would also free states to decide if they wanted mandatory motorcycle helmet laws by ending federal penalties for states without them.
The main purpose of the legislation was to allocate $6.5 billion in federal highway building funds.
