Maker of Web-Browsing Program to Go Public: Netscape Communications Corp., maker of Netscape Navigator, a popular software program that helps computer users explore the Internet, said it is going public with a stock sale. The company said it has filed a statement with the Securities and Exchange Commission for an initial public offering of 3.5 million shares of common stock. Chief Financial Officer Peter Currie said he expects the stock to be offered in mid-August. The Mountain View, Calif.-based company did not disclose a price for the shares or estimate how much money it expects to raise through the offering.
