Cal Lutheran Grad Wins Scholarship

Share

A graduate of Cal Lutheran University has won the 1996-97 Rotary Foundation Academic Ambassadorial Scholarship, the Rotary Club of Westlake Village Sunrise announced this week.

Jim Williams, 22, plans to spend the $21,500 to study at the London School of Economics. Williams was graduated summa cum laude from Cal Lutheran last month with a bachelor’s degree in business administration and political science. He will attend one year of law school at Willamette University in Salem, Ore., before heading to Europe for a year.

The Rotary scholarship pays for a year of studying and traveling in a foreign country. In exchange, scholarship recipients must speak to that country’s Rotary clubs and promote a cultural understanding of the United States.

“It will be a great opportunity to meet students from around the world and do volunteer work,” said Williams, who found out about the program from a Cal Lutheran faculty member.

Paula Avery, a French teacher at Cal Lutheran, is traveling in Africa on a Rotary scholarship.
