County to Decide on Taxi Service Contract

Share

Ventura County supervisors on Tuesday will consider approving a $30,000 contract with a Thousand Oaks cab company to provide dial-a-ride taxi service for residents living in neighboring communities during the next year.

The county has contracted with the city of Thousand Oaks since 1988 to provide taxi service to senior citizens and disabled residents in Newbury Park, Ventu Park, Lynn Ranch and Rolling Oaks. The city, however, has asked that the county now contract directly with the Thousand Oaks Cab Co.

The cab company serves riders on a first-come, first-served basis, from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. The taxi service is offered from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekends. One-way fare is $1.50 per passenger on weekdays and $2 on weekends. About 140 riders use the service each month.

Also on Tuesday, the board will consider renewing a $100,000 contract with the city of Agoura Hills to continue providing dial-a-ride service to residents in Oak Park, where 1,500 riders use the cabs each month.
