NUMBERS NOW: For the impatient politics junkie, a new fix. Computer users can get results of Tuesday’s Measure R balloting even as the votes are counted. Irvine firm Maximized Online will, by computer, get the tally from the registrar of voters and then post the numbers on the Internet’s World Wide Web. The web site also contains the measure’s wording, pros and cons, and a talk area. Address: https://infopages.com/ocelect/.

STAY SAFE: It might sound grim--dwelling on parental nightmares such as child abductions and bicycle accidents. But officials at Children’s Hospital at Mission hope their safety fair will prevent such horrors. . . . “Parents believe they have to be safe, but don’t know how. We’ll teach them how,” said spokeswoman Emily Barnett. There’s also fun: pony rides, a bike rodeo and tours of a trauma helicopter. Today from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. 27700 Medical Center Road, Mission Viejo. (714) 532-8680.

BEING THERE: First-grade teacher Barbara Scott usually gives the lessons. But 10 years with breast cancer taught her a few--like the value of knowing fellow survivors. So she set up a survivors’ group to help women cope with cancer. Healthy now after two mastectomies, Scott is among eight people being saluted Sunday by the Breast Care Center in Orange. . . . A cancer diagnosis is devastating, said Scott, 48, of Aliso Viejo. “Survivors are messengers to let women know they’re going to make it. They’re going to survive too.”

POLITICAL PARTY: Where does Joe Six-Pack go after voting? To a tailgate party, of course. Opponents of Measure R, the proposed half-cent sales tax, are advertising the “Mother of all Tailgate Parties” following Tuesday’s election. A flyer by tax foes promises a “Joe Six-Pack type” bash, with dancing, old-fashioned speechifying and sing-alongs in the parking lot of the county registrar of voters’s office. No alcohol allowed, though.
