COSTA MESA : Construction to Begin on South Coast Mall

Share

Construction is to begin today on South Coast Boardwalk, a shopping center that will border both South Coast Plaza and Crystal Court.

Despite the abundance of shopping options already in the area, said Dave Ball, president of Arnel Development Co., South Coast Boardwalk will provide something new.

“What we are doing is offering an entertainment-based alternative,” Ball said. The mall will feature a 12-screen movie theater complex, he said, as well as several restaurants.

Ball said the Boardwalk will also house several discount retailers, including Best Buy, Nordstrom Rack and Old Navy.

“It is going to be very different from what you will find” at upscale Crystal Court and South Coast Plaza, he said.

The 400,000-square-foot shopping center is to be completed in late spring, 1996.

The Boardwalk is the final phase of Arnel’s Metro Pointe Development, a project that also included construction of four office buildings and a 300-unit apartment complex along South Coast Drive near South Coast Plaza.
