Police Arrest 7th Suspect in Tustin Man’s Beating Death

Police arrested a teen-ager Wednesday in connection with the beating death of a man who may have taken drugs from a street gang, authorities said.

Ramon Bravo, 19, of Anaheim, was arrested on suspicion of planning and participating in the killing of Scott Mundt, who was repeatedly punched, kicked and struck Nov. 29 outside his apartment in the 15700 block of Tustin Village Way in Tustin, police said.

Mundt died about a month later from the injuries, Police Sgt. Mike Pettifer said.

Three other men and three juveniles were arrested in February on suspicion of murder in connection with the same killing and are awaiting trial.

The suspects allegedly confronted Mundt and demanded drugs or the money for the substance, police said. When they got neither, the assailants attacked Mundt, according to police.

Investigators received a tip about Bravo’s whereabouts from a person who told them that the suspect was staying with his relatives in Anaheim, Pettifer said.

Detectives pursued the tip and about 7:30 a.m. Wednesday, they went to the 200 block of East North Street in Anaheim and arrested Bravo on suspicion of murder. He was being held in the Orange County Jail. Bail was set at $250,000.

Arrested in February at their homes in Tustin and Santa Ana were: Rene P. Rodriguez, 21, of Tustin; Oscar Rico, 19, of Santa Ana; James A. Askew, 29, of Tustin, and three juveniles ages 14 to 17.
