Countywide : Measure M Funds Deadline Is Today

Share

Today is the deadline for cities across Orange County to submit their applications to the Orange County Transportation Authority for Measure M funds.

The transportation agency will review the applications, which outline how the money would be spent, and forward them to a citizens’ oversight committee that will determine eligibility. The applications then return to the OCTA board for final approval.

The review period could take as long as 90 days, officials said. If a city’s application is turned down, the city may appeal the ruling, and the request will be sent to the authority’s technical advisory committee.

Measure M, a half-cent sales tax, was approved by Orange County voters in 1990. The revenue raised from the tax each year helps pay for transportation improvements.

To qualify for funds, cities must adopt seven-year capital improvement programs and must demonstrate that they can maintain new projects once they are built.

Measure M funds will be available for 16 more years.
