SANTA ANA — A 26-year-old Tustin man was shot and killed early Saturday after arguing with a man outside a bar, police said.
Alberto Aguilera, 36, of Ontario was arrested on suspicion of murder in connection with the fatal shooting of Jose Raya Perez. Aguilera was booked in the Santa Ana Jail, with bail set at $250,000, authorities said.
According to Santa Ana police, Aguilera shot Perez in the head while the two men argued at 1:40 a.m. They were in the parking lot of Nica’s Bar on South Standard Road, Officer Robert Rhea said.
According to authorities, two officers were handling a disturbance call across the street from the bar when they heard a gunshot.
The officers said they saw Perez fall and observed Aguilera place an unknown object in his waistband and get into a parked car.
When Aguilera tried to drive from the parking lot, officers blocked his path with their cruisers and ordered him from the vehicle. Authorities found a handgun on the floorboard of the driver’s side of Aguilera’s car and arrested him without incident, according to investigators. Aguilera will be charged with murder.
Authorities declined to list a motive for the shooting and released no other details.
