Funeral services were held this week for three members of a Pomona family who died when their station wagon was struck head-on by a car on the Pomona Freeway in Industry.

Nar Singh, 55, his wife Rebekah, 49, and their 14-year-old daughter, Ashlini, died in the crash that also killed the Singhs’ nephew, Raj Naveen, 18, and the driver of the other car, William Kennedy, 46, of Hacienda Heights.

Singh had worked for the California Conservation Corps for about 10 years, and dozens of his CCC colleagues from throughout the state were among the mourners at Monday’s services at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Covina, said CCC spokesman Greg Hess.

Naveen’s body was returned to his homeland of Fiji for burial, Hess said.

The crash occurred about 2:30 p.m. on June 24 as the Singhs and Naveen were in a Toyota station wagon that was westbound on the freeway, which runs parallel to Gale Avenue.

Kennedy was driving his Pontiac Firebird eastbound on Gale Avenue when he lost control on a curve, said Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Sgt. Richard Dinsmoor.

The car crashed through a freeway barrier fence and over an embankment and hit the station wagon head-on.
