THOUSAND OAKS : Sculpture of Eagles Unveiled at Arts Plaza
The eagles have landed, right in the middle of Thousand Oaks.
The city chose the Fourth of July to unveil its latest art acquisition, a 10-foot-tall sculpture of three bald eagles fighting, donated by the Anthony J. Tesoro family of Westlake.
With red, white and blue balloons flying high, city officials dedicated the sculpture, “Territorial Dispute,” on Tuesday morning. It is now on permanent display in the Anthony J. Tesoro Courtyard of the Oaks at the new, $64-million Civic Arts Plaza.
The sculpture is one in a series of 50 bronzes by artist Chester Armstrong. Identical bronzes sit in the world headquarters of the Sony Corp. in Japan and in the palace of King Fahd of Saudi Arabia. The eagles are entwined in a fierce midair battle over territory.
“Territorial Dispute,” valued at $125,000, is the first bronze piece to be placed in the Civic Arts Plaza.
