NEWBURY PARK : White House Honors School Principal
Brad Baker, principal of Walnut Street Elementary School in Newbury Park, was in the White House last month, waving through the windows at unsuspecting tourists fooled by his gray suit and Clinton-esque hairdo.
Baker traveled to Washington to accept a Safe and Drug-Free School Award from the President. He also met Sen. Dianne Feinstein and Rep. Anthony C. Beilenson (D-Woodland Hills).
“It was really fun,” Baker told the Conejo Valley school board recently.
State and federal officials reviewed Walnut Elementary before bestowing the honor on the school. The campus was one of two in California and 98 in the country to receive the recognition.
School officials said they use the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department Drug Abuse Resistance Education program, a “values word of the week,” and a zero-tolerance policy toward weapons to keep the school safe and free of drugs.
