14-Foot Thresher Shark Caught Off San Clemente
It took 4 hours and 15 minutes and all of the passengers and crew aboard the California Dawn to get a 324-pound thresher shark on board Wednesday, but the captain said it was worth it.
The shark is the largest caught this year off Orange County, said Jack Kemnitz, who runs California Dawn Sport Fishing out of Davey’s Locker in Newport Beach.
The shark measured 14 feet long, more than twice the average length of thresher sharks.
Caught eight miles off the coast of San Clemente, it was headed right for the grill.
“They taste excellent,” Kemnitz said.
