Timothy Scott; TV, Movie Actor

Timothy Scott, a character actor perhaps best remembered for his role as Pea Eye Parker in the “Lonesome Dove” television miniseries, has died. He was 57.

Scott died of lung cancer in Los Angeles on June 14.

Inducted last year into the Cowboy Hall of Fame in honor of his many Western roles, Scott appeared in about 30 feature films, including “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid,” in which he portrayed News Carver, and “The Electric Horseman,” in which he played Leroy Smitley.

He also appeared as Smokey Lonesome in “Fried Green Tomatoes” and Shag Bag in the film “In the Heat of the Night.”

On television, Scott portrayed Grover the affable bumpkin in the series “Down Home,” which ran on NBC in 1990 and 1991. He also appeared in numerous TV movies and miniseries.

Scott was a co-founder with fellow actor James Gammon of MET Theater in Los Angeles and was involved in many productions there as an actor and director.

He is survived by his wife, Donna Leigh Scott; a stepdaughter, Marissa Scott Windom, and two sons, Dean Swope and Scott Harmon.

A memorial service is scheduled for 2 p.m. July 23 at the MET Theater, 1089 N. Oxford Ave.
